Investments in building accommodations for workers at IPs encouraged

The Ministry of Planning and Investment should work closely with relevant ministries and agencies to soon work out specific priorities and incentives to encourage investments in building accommodations for workers at industrial parks and export-processing zones (IPs and EPZs), said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

The deputy PM was speaking at a meeting to discuss ways to encourage enterprises of different economic sectors to pour investments to build houses for workers.

He emphasised that it was important to have planning of apartment buildings for workers in the planning for development of industrial parks.

Vietnam currently has 185 IPs and EPZs and some over 1 million workers are working in factories in these zones. 700,000 workers of these have demands to rent their accommodations. However, centralised apartment buildings built from both the State budget and enterprises, only meet 7-10% of the total demands.
