Canon Vietnam unit posts 34 pct gain in first-half sales

Canon Inc., the world’s biggest manufacturer of cameras, posted a 34 percent increase in first-half revenue from its Vietnam operations.

Canon Vietnam Co.’s sales rose to US$534 million from $400 million a year earlier, the maker of printers and scanners said in an e-mailed statement Friday.

Sales will probably rise to $1 billion this year from $952 million in 2007, it said.

Canon last month completed construction of a plant in the northern province of Bac Ninh, bringing the number of its factories in the Southeast Asian country to three, the unit, which exports all its products, said on August 22.
