VE Expo 2008 to boost the use of clean energy sources

The second Vietnam International Energy Forum and Fair, VE Expo 2008, will focus on recycled and natural energy, which has been ignored in Vietnam.

It will be held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi from October 30-31.

VEA President Tran Viet Ngai said that the output of the national electricity grid is more than 12,000 MW but has not yet fully met the demands of the economy and the public. Power shortages often occur in summer and the dry season.

According to the 2006-2015 master plan to develop the national electricity grid, the Vietnamese people will need up to 100 billion KWh of electricity by 2015. It is estimated that Vietnam will have to import 93-150 million tonnes of coal to operate its thermal power plants in 2015.

Vietnam is expected to produce 8,000 MW of nuclear power by 2020 but the country faces difficulties in importing uranium.
