Tea exports down in volume, up in value

58,000 tons of Vietnamese tea, valued at US$79 million, was shipped abroad over the first seven months of this year.

Exports were down 3.2 percent in volume, but up 32.6 percent in value over the same period last year, according to the country’s General Statistics Office.

The biggest buyers over the period included United Arab Emirates, Russia, Ukraine and China.

The country is planning to export 120,000 tons of tea worth $200 million in 2010, according to the Trade Information Center under the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In 2007, Vietnam exported 114,000 tons, at $131 million, year-on-year rises of 7.8 percent and 18.4 percent, respectively.
