Industries eye Dong Thap
Twelve key industries will be given top priority in Dong Thap Province’s long-term plan toward 2020.
Among the industries are electronics, IT, equipment manufacture, and textiles and garments.
Dong Thap now produces about 3.2 million garment products a year, with export turnover on average US$11.498 million per year.
The garment industry is expected to reach 20 million products a year, and annual export turnover of $20 million by 2010.
By 2010, 40 million products per year and export turnover of $40 million is envisioned.
The Dong Thap plastics industry is also given priority for development till 2010 to push production for domestic consumption and export.
The pharmaceutical industry will now reach 1,672 million tablets per year, which is expected to rise to 2,000 million tablets a year.
Currently, nearly 850 enterprises in mechanical manufacturing exist with about 3,800 workers.
Industrial production value reached an estimated over VND100 billion ($6.25 million) a year .
Dong Thap Province has three industrial parks: Sa Dec, Tran Quoc Toan and Song Hau, with a total area of 548ha and 25 industrial clusters with 1,500ha in total in the service of developing key industries .
Priority industries until 2020 include electricity, electronics, telecommunications, new technology products, IT, mechanical manufacturing, agricultural machinery and electrome-chanics. Agro–forestry and fisheries processing will also be key industries under the plan.
