Electronic goods export hits 1.44 billion USD
The General Statistics Office says the country’s electronic goods and computer components exports hit 1.44 billion USD in seven months, a year-on-year increase of 29 percent.
The electronics export turnover has increased sharply in recent years, from 166 million USD in 2002 to 2.15 billion USD in 2007. It is estimated to reach 3 billion USD at the end of this year.
Vietnam ’s electronic goods and computer components are being exported to 40 countries and territories around the world, especially to the EU market.
The products’ export to the EU market reached nearly 170 million USD in the first five months of this year, increasing 38.6 percent against the same period last year and holding 17 percent of the country’s total export turnover.
Other markets such as Thailand , Japan and China also saw high growth rate of the products’ export turnover.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said the increase in electronic exports to foreign markets is attributed to the increase in the number of foreign investment projects, including large-scale projects, in the electronics industry.
With their current growth, electronic products and computer components are included in the list of the country’s export staples from 2006-2010, with their export turnover estimated to reach 5 billion USD by 2010.
The Ministry asked businesses to focus on producing electronic products for informatics, telecommunications, health and industry. It also requested enterprises to improve product quality and samples and reduce the prices of civil electronic products to increase shares in the domestic market.
