Tax evasions found rampant
The State Audit has reported over 2.76 trillion VND in tax evasions and 1.24 trillion VND in State budget overspending in 2007.
The report, announced by Head of the General Department of the State Audit Vu Van Hoa in Hanoi on July 1, made it clear that the agency has helped retrieve over 237.55 billion VND to the State budget from 470 businesses in 29 provinces and cities for their tax evasions.
Hoa said the problem was found mostly in the construction sector due to frauds in value added taxes and false revenues reports.
Otherwise, scattering investments on a large number of small-sized projects have been blamed for State budget overspending, said the senior auditor.
He said auditing has also helped reduce the State budget spending on subsidies to petroleum prices by 41.4 billion VND.
By now, management agencies can determine the exact amount of money necessary for petrol subsidies, Hoa added.
This year, the State Audit would focus on the pricing of electricity, coal and minerals to help the Government work out a proper roadmap on prices of these crucial products, the auditing expert concluded.
