Seafood exports to Russia, Ukraine continue to rise
Russia and Ukraine have imported large volumes of catfish from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
A contract signed between VASEP and the Russian Association of Seafood Traders and processors has cemented relations between Vietnamese seafood processors and Russian importers.
Under the agreement, Vietnam and Russia will co-manage and control product quality based on international standards.
There is a strong demand for catfish fillets, dry seafood and whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Russia.
Ukraine is also an important seafood export market for Vietnam as Vietnamese seafood exports to the market increased to 9,464 tonnes worth US$16.4 million.
Vietnam has a target of US$4.2 billion from seafood exports, of them, shrimp exports are expected to reach US$1.5 billion and tra catfish US$1.2 billion.
In the first half of this year, Vietnam made US$1.9 billion from seafood exports, 16 percent higher than the same period last year.
