Binh Duong’s FDI exceeds 1 billion USD benchmark
The southern province of Binh Duong has since the beginning of this year attracted more than 1 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI), fulfilling the yearly target.
In May alone, the province licensed 19 new FDI projects totalling 134.9 million USD and permitted 10 projects to add a combined amount of 117.8 million USD.
Statistics released by the provincial People’s Committee show that scales of the newly-licensed projects are larger than existing ones with a capital average of 6.6 million USD for each project, 2.7 million USD higher than those licensed last year.
Vietnam absorbed over 14.72 billion USD in FDI in the first five months, a 2.6 fold year-on-year increase, reported the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The country licensed 130 new FDI projects worth almost 7.5 billion USD in May, bringing the total number of newly-licensed projects in the first five months of the year to 324. It also permitted 132 projects to add a total amount of more than 600 million USD.
With three investment projects worth 4.23 billion USD, Canada came in first among 32 countries and territories investing in Vietnam in the five-month period.
