VN-Index further down, HaSTC-Index bounces back

The Ho Chi Minh City bourse continued its downward trend while its Ha Noi-based counterpart recorded a slight increase at the end of the March 19 trading session.

The VN-Index at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE) dipped 14.81 points, or 2.52 percent, to close at 573.45 points, breaking through the March 5 session’s 583.45 point mark, the lowest level since mid-2006.

However, the southern bourse set a new record in the transaction volume with close to 28 million shares, worth over 1.8 trillion VND, changing hands.

“It’s hard for the VN-Index to bounce back at this time when securities companies have no other choice but to sell out their shares to avoid bigger losses”, said experts.

In contrast to the southern floor’s downward trend, the HaSTC-Index at the Ha Noi Securities Trading Centre enjoyed a slight increase of 1.98 points, or 1.01 percent, to finish at 197.78 points.

Around 5.5 million shares, worth 271 billion VND, were traded during the session.

While the majority of shares at the Ha Noi bourse rallied for gains or remained unchanged, the group of Song Da shares continued dropping.
