Foreign remittances hit US $5.5 billion

Overseas Vietnamese has sent a total of US $5.5 billion worth of remittances through official channels in 2007, an increase of US $1 billion compared to 2006 and accounting for 25% of the total foreign direct investment to Vietnam.

Last year, Overseas Vietnamese invested in 29 projects in Vietnam with a total investment of USS $89 million.

These projects specialise in software production, real estate, garments and consultancy.

Overseas Vietnamese from the US topped in terms of number of projects and total investment capital with 11 projects worth US $55 million, followed by those from Japan and Switzerland.
