2012 distribution map to be sketched out

The Center of Business Studies and Assistance BSA has completed the drawing of the goods distribution map thanks to which, enterprises could imagine the goods flow to set up their production and business plans.

The map shows the network of goods distribution in six provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, namely Tra Vinh, Can Tho, Vinh Long, An Giang, Tien Giang and Long An.

This is the picture which shows the general and detailed factors of the market which reflects the real situation and the scale of the local markets. The map has been drawn up after considering the current situation of the distribution networks in the provinces, the operating rules, the flow of goods, the logistics system, big distributors and the networks of sales agents, shops and retail points.

From now to the end of the year, BSC plans to draw up the map of the goods distribution in HCM City, and then the maps of other provinces and cities.

“We are planning to sell the distribution maps to enterprises at 40 million dong per map/ province and business field. If someone purchases the all the maps of the six provinces and all business fields, the package price would be 200 million dong.

Vu Kim Hanh, Director of BSA, said that the 10 enterprises in HCM City and five enterprises in the north, which first register to purchase the maps would receive free guidance about how to use the maps.

According to Hanh, in the current economic difficulties, when people have to fasten their belt, businesses find it difficult to sell their goods. However, those businesses, who have good distribution networks which cover every corner of provinces and cities, in rural and urban areas, would still be able to “live well.”

Especially, businesses need to build the storehouses right in distribution markets in order to satisfy the demand for goods in the quickest way. Manufacturers also need to well organize the displaying of goods and apply reasonable policies to sales agents to encourage them to boost sales.

It’s time to develop modern distribution channel

Experts believe that it’s now the right time for manufacturing enterprises and distributors to sit together to restructure their operation. Manufacturers not only should try to boost sales in the urban areas in the context where urbanites also have to fasten their belt, but also try to have their goods sold on modern distribution channels.

Nguyen Thai Dung, Deputy General Director of Big C Supermarket Company, said that strong distribution networks will help create the strength of Vietnamese goods. A lot of types of modern retail channels have appeared recently, including supermarkets, specialty shops and convenience stores.

Though having witnessed a high growth rate of 20 percent per annum, the total revenue of the modern distribution channels accounts for just 10 percent of the total retail turnover. The number of Vietnamese goods that have found positions on the shelves of supermarkets remains modest, which has been attributed to the fact that enterprises still cannot meet the requirements in deliveries, packing and transport.

According to Dung, enterprises would choose key distribution channels for themselves, depending on the goods they manufacture. Food and processed products should focus on supermarkets, while the key distribution channel for sweets is groceries. As for export products, it is necessary to apply the “oil slick” strategy, which means that the goods should be sold at major markets first, and then the sale would be expanded to other potential areas.

Dang Hoang Hai, Director of the European Market of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has informed that Big C Vietnam, with the support of the parent company in France, is helping bring Vietnamese export goods directly to the supermarkets in Europe. It is expected that the European Market would cooperate with Metro Cash & Carry to organize the weeks of Vietnamese goods in the supermarket chains in Europe.
