Textile, garment exports jump 28%

Textile and garments exports rose 28.2 percent year-on-year to US$8.95 billion.

In August alone, apparel shipments were worth $1.35 billion.

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, or Vinatas, said the industry was likely to surpass this year’s export target of $13.5 billion.

Last year they were worth $11.2 billion.

Agro-forestry-fishery exports have topped $16.4 billion this year, a rise of 34.2 percent, Vietnam News Agency quoted the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as saying.

Of this, agricultural products fetched $9.3 billion, up 44 percent, while aquatic produce earned $3.7 billion.

The sector targets exports of $23 billion compared to $19.2 billion last year.
