More exports gain over US$1 bln in first half
Twelve export items reaped turnovers of US $1 billion or more in the first half of this year, up from nine in the same period last year, according to the General Department of Việt Nam Customs.
The 12 items are garments and textiles, crude oil, footwear, seafood, mobile phones and components, rice, coffee, wood and wooden products, computers and other electronic appliances and components, machine and equipment, rubber, and gemstones and precious metals.
In the first half of 2010, the export value from coffee, rubber, and mobile phones and components were below US$1 billion.
In the first six months of this year, the combined export turnovers of the 12 products were nearly US$29 billion, accounting for 67.2% of the country’s total export value, and contributing to Việt Nam’s reduced trade deficit in the 6-month period to US$6.4 billion.
In the reviewed period, 11 items had imported value of US$1 billion or more.
Of those, chemicals and chemical products, whose import value were below US$1 billion in the first half of 2010, had jumped to over US$ 1 billion in the January-June period.
The total import value of the 11 key imported goods stood at US$30.4 billion, or 61.4% of the country’s total import turnover.
