PM okays Da Nang-Quang Ngai highway

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the central Da Nang-Quang Ngai Highway project based on the proposal from the Ministry of Planning and Investment. The VND28 trillion (US$1.3 billion) project is a key infrastructure facility for the development of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Da Nang.

Chairman of the Viet Nam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation's Board Members Council (VEC) Tran Xuan Sanh said construction on the 139-kilometre four-lane highway was expected to start by the end of the year and become operational by 2016.

The Prime Minister has ordered the transport and finance ministries to determine the country's necessary capital contribution and then to submit the proposed figure to him for consideration.

VEC has already arranged loans, implemented procurement advise and called for land clearance to prepare for construction. They will develop the expressway under build-operate-own terms.
