Laos seeks more stable export market

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad has called on authorities of business unit and sector concerned to seek for a long term and stable markets overseas.

Laos has export markets but they are not a stable one, he pointed out.

Concerning this issue, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat has stressed on the sectors concerned and business parts seeking for new markets as well as the improvement quality of our products are able to respond to the market's demand constantly.

The goods export of Laos including textile, clothes, mine ores, electricity, agricultural produces, agricultural and industrial processing products, wood processing have been exporting to many countries worldwide such as Japan, USA, European Union, South Korea, China, Taiwan and India. Most of them are main markets.

However the Lao goods entering into these markets are now not stable one because the orders from trade partners in these countries had a few year and non-constant orders. So, Lao products always confront with lack of export market.

The small-and-medium enterprises in Laos is covered by 80 per cent but their products are still low quality and competition, and disadvantaged competition when our products entering into international market with high competition, he added.

Therefore, he has called on all businesses hands in hands to look for more sustainable market and focus on improving products.

First, we have to take into account our abilities for goods producing such as the responding raw materials to the production, quality, labour, price and service. The most important one, the Government has to act as a coordinator to seek for the new markets for the business sector, he advised.

Minister of Industry and Commerce Nam Vinhaket said that many glossaries of our products have been given the tax exemption thanks to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

However, many glossaries of Lao goods importing to China, South Korea and Thailand have not been yet received considerable benefit from the GSP because the goods from Laos are quite low quality and quantity leading to Lao goods have not had stable markets when compared to subregion countries.
