VN Airlines to slash prices for Japan-Vietnam route

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said earlier this week it would cut ticket prices by half and use larger aircraft on its Tokyo-Hanoi route from March 16 to 20.

Vietnam Airlines announced its plan after ticket agencies reported surging demands from customers in Japan for flights to Vietnam.

Under the plan, a 50 percent discount will be applied to tickets for all flights from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for Vietnamese customers.

Vietnam Airlines will also replace its 282-seat A330 aircraft with Boeing 777 planes that have up to 234 seats on flights between Japan and Vietnam.

Four representative offices and agents of Vietnam Airlines in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka would also maintain their normal operation, the airliner said.

In a separate development, three airports in Sendai, Onahama and Hachinohe have shut down due to damage caused by the tsunami.

Airports in other cities including Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, Osaka and Hakata are resuming their normal activities.
