Northern province builds thermal power plant

By the time it is completed, Cong Thanh Thermal Power Plant is expected to provide 3.9 billion kWh for the national grid every year.

Built on an area of 63 hectares inside the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Cong Thanh Corporation’s plant will be completed in two phases.

The first group of turbines will be up and running in the first quarter of 2014 and the second, by the end of the same year.

With a total investment of VND13 billion (US$619 million), the plant is aimed to provide electricity for Thanh Hoa’s on-going petrochemical, cement, shipbuilding, and deep-water port projects.

In the ground-breaking ceremony, Cong Thanh also signed a memorandum of long-term partnership in energy, fertilizers and other areas with GE Corps, the technology investor of the thermal power plant.

In 2009, GE Corporation also invested more than $60 million in wind energy production in Hai Phong.
