Work to cover 214 hectares with coal power plant begins

Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, known as PetroVietnam, began working with the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corp. to construct a 1,200-megawatt coal-fueled power plant in the central province of Ha Tinh on Thursday.

The US$1.6 billion Vung Ang 1 plant, which covers an area of 214 hectares, is expected to produce 7.2 billion kilowatt-hours a year once completed.

The coal-fired plant’s first turbine is scheduled to come online in the third quarter of 2012 while the second is slated to open for operation in the first quarter of 2013.

WorleyParson Pte. will provide technical and managerial consultancy throughout the duration of the project’s construction, Lilama said in July.
