U.S. firm to design Vietcombank headquarters

Vietcombank has awarded Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Inc, which designed the former world’s tallest building, the Petronas Towers, with the design contract for its new Ho Chi Minh City-based headquarters.

The U.S. firm Friday signed the contract with Vietcombank – Bonday – Benthanh Joint Venture Company Limited, a JV between Vietcombank, Hong Kong real estate firm Bonday Investments Limited and HCMC-based tour operator Ben Thanh Tourist Service Company.

The 35-storey Vietcombank Tower will be built in District 1 - the heart of the country’s major shopping and business area.

It will house Grade A, or premier office space, restaurants, retail venues and parking.

Work on the building, which has an estimated construction schedule of three years, is expected to start in the third quarter of next year.

Founded in 1977, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Inc has designed some of the world’s most recognizable buildings, including the World Financial Center in New York, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, and the International Finance Center in Hong Kong.
