IBM ‘Innovation Centre’ to support regional firms

US technology giant IBM further expanded its reach into developing nations with the opening of the first IBM Innovation Centre in Viet Nam yesterday.

The centre, located in HCM City, will provide entrepreneurs and business partners in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos access to digital infrastructure technologies for government and growth industries like telecommunications, finance, and energy.

IBM also announced collaborations with the two Universities of Technology in HCM City and Ha Noi to set new curricula respectively for cloud computing and service science management and engineering, information technology services.

It launched the first Vietnamese language version of IBM developerWorks, the world’s largest and most visited global site for IT professionals.

The new HCM City centre will provide IBM business partners, independent software vendors, start-up companies, venture capitalists, and academics access to training workshops, consulting services, a broad technical infrastructure, and hands-on assistance to help validate, optimise and test new software technologies.

It will offer access to open standards-based and emerging technologies such as cloud computing, Web 2.0 technologies, service-oriented architecture, service management, and computing designs that provide energy and environment benefits.

The centre also will serve as a local technology hub, linking together local IBM business partners with IBM Viet Nam’s Cloud Lab, Banking Centre of Excellence and Technical Exploration Centre.

Alexander Grygoruk, president and CEO of UNICOM Software in HCM City, said: "The centre will allow us to maintain our high performance edge, reduce porting and testing costs, and get our banking software to market more rapidly."

IBM has 43 Innovation Centres worldwide.
