CPI increases by 0.44 percent in May
The increase of the base salary level as of May 1 has driven the prices of essential consumer goods up.
According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in May has increased by 0.44 percent against April, sending the CPI during the past five months soaring by 11.59 percent over the same period last year.
Economic experts have attributed the increase to the effectiveness of using the Government’s stimulus packages.
In addition, the increasing prices of electricity and a number of input materials such as coal, oil and petroleum have driven the prices of essential goods upward.
Meanwhile, prices for transport, post and telecom, housing and construction materials, household consumer goods and other services continue to rise sharply.
