US$70-billion hi-tech medical zone to take shape in HCM City

A ground-breaking ceremony for an international high tech medical zone was held in Binh Chanh district of Ho Chi Minh City on Feb. 21.

The Hai Thuong Y Vien humanitarian hospital will be built on 19.5 hectares at a total cost of US$70 million.

The hospital will have three specialised areas – a treatment area (including 13 departments and 600 beds), a training centre and a convalescence area for patents and their relatives.

Once operational, the hospital is expected to provide free healthcare services for poor patients. It plans to provide free therapy services for 500 patients a day and free medicine for 2,000 patients per day.

Expenses for the hospital are estimated to reach US$15 million a year which will be contributed by philanthropists and non-governmental organisations.
