IDC: Vietnam's client PC market remains on track
IDC's quarterly tracking of the client PC market in Vietnam recently concluded that the market grew 8.5 percent sequentially and 12.5 percent year-on-year to 365,600 units in the third quarter of 2008.
Although client PC consumption in Vietnam was adversely impacted by macroeconomic elements such as rising inflation index and fuel prices since the beginning of July and an unstable foreign exchange rate, the market made a rebound on the back of special programmes driven by vendors for the back-to-school period in mid August, the branch of the International Data Group (IDG) said.
IDC believes the total client PC unit shipments in third quarter of 2008 could be even higher if not for the competitive threat of lower priced secondhand PCs, refurbished PCs and parallel imports circulating in the market.
“Despite factors such as unstable exchange rates, higher inflation and interest rates that were limiting growth, the client PC market in Vietnam overcame these and showed signs of a recovery in the third quarter of 2008, which will continue into the forth quarter of the year,” IDC stressed.
