Hanoi to develops craft villages for sustainable growth

Each district or town will establish at least one center for the creative design, promotion, and sale of One Commune One Product (OCOP) items, linking artisan villages with tourism.

Hanoi will boost the production of handicraft villages for sustainable growth and preservation from 2024 to 2030, with a vision to 2050.

This is one of the three goals of the Hanoi Rural Industry Development Plan, recently issued by the Hanoi People's Committee.

The city will soon issue regulations on the level of support for the development of rural industries and craft villages in Hanoi, as stipulated in Government Decree No. 52/2018.

The city will also consider granting the title of "Craft Village", "Traditional Craft Village", and "Heritage Craft Village" to 15 such villages in Hanoi in 2024.

The initiative aims to support the sustainable growth of artisan villages, preserve their traditional values and cultural identity, increase the income of workers and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the city.

Resources will be mobilized from economic stakeholders to support the transformation of the economic structure towards industrialization, modernization of agriculture, and rural development in line with the National Program for the Construction of New Rural Areas.

To achieve these goals, the city will formulate policies, apply science and technology, provide workforce training, promote commercial activities, provide financial support and disseminate tax policies, allocate and lease land, and protect the environment of craft villages.

The development and preservation of craft villages will be linked with tourism and experiential education.

The Municipal People's Committee mandates districts and towns to proactively develop local plans and organize effective implementation in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and other relevant departments and agencies.

Each district or town will establish at least one center for the creative design, promotion and sale of One Commune One Product (OCOP) items, linking artisan villages with tourism.

Local authorities will support manufacturers in promoting rural industry products and brands, expanding market consumption, and using advanced technology and machinery to increase productivity and competitiveness while preserving traditional cultural values.
