US imposes 220 per cent anti-dumping tax on steel coat hangers
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced that it will continue to impose an anti-dumping tax of over 220 per cent on Vietnam's steel coat hangers.
According to the DOC, no Vietnamese companies participated in this review before the anti-dumping measures expired after five years. Therefore, Vietnam's steel coat hangers imported to the US will be subject to an anti-dumping tax of 220 per cent and an anti-subsidy tax of 157 per cent.
The Trade Remedies Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has revealed the decision of the DOC on September 6.
The authority recommends new Vietnamese exporters contact the DOC before exporting their products to calculate their tax rates.
Do Ngoc Hung, commercial counselor in the US, suggested that Vietnamese businesses should pay special attention to the origin of goods and raw materials to avoid high anti-dumping or anti-subsidy taxes.
Earlier in July, the DOC also declared that it would continue to levy an anti-subsidy tax of 32 per cent on Vietnamese steel coat hangers, with the exception of one company that was subject to a separate tax rate of 90 per cent.
On January 18, 2012, the DOC decided to launch an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigation into steel coat hangers imported from Vietnam.
Since 2013, steel coat hangers imported from the country have been subject to US anti-dumping taxes of between 157 per cent and 220 per cent and anti-subsidy duties of between 32 per cent and 90 per cent.
Steel coat hangers are made from carbon steel wire, regardless of whether they are painted or plated, coated with plastic, or similar materials. Steel hanger products are used in the garments and textiles, and laundry industries.
