At the close, the main index gained 0.94% from the session earlier, with winning stocks outnumbering falling ones by 244 to 197. Trade volume totaled 790 million shares worth VND18 trillion, up 3% in volume and 11% in value, against the day earlier. Some 65 million shares valued at VND2 trillion were traded in block deals.

All the bank stocks were in positive territory and mainly contributed to the gain of the southern bourse, with lender CTG hitting the ceiling price and reporting a matching volume of 15.4 million shares.

Lender STB was the most actively traded stock on the southern market with 31.1 million shares changing hands and closed the day up 1.7%. Bank stock MBB was also attractive to investors, with 22 million shares traded.

Many other large-cap stocks such as property firm VIC, gas firm GAS, steelmaker HPG and fuel distributor PLX continued their upward trend.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 3.55 points, or 1.71%, from the session earlier, at 211.68. There were 148 million shares worth VND2 trillion changing hands, down 12% and 14.3% against the day earlier, respectively.

Lender SHB took the lead on the northern bourse by liquidity with 19.4 million shares traded and finished the day up.

The northern bourse also saw petroleum stock PVS and service company THD make strong gains.
