Japan to invest $3 million in Siem Reap hospital

A Japanese investor has committed to invest $3 million to construct a hospital in Siem Reap.

Kannari Yutaka, who has personally invested in the hospital which is named Angkor Kyosei Hospital, said the concept for a new healthcare facility was discussed five years ago when Seang Nam, a Siem Reap lawmaker, told him Siem Reap did not have an international standard hospital yet.

“This hospital will provide the first ever international care services to tourists visiting this province,” he said. “I expect more and more people will come here.”

“This hospital will focus on general illness, operated by Cambodian doctors who have been trained in Japan, Thailand and Korea. They will also train the [local] Cambodian doctors.”

Angkor Kyosei Hospital is located in Sra-nge range commune, which is about 10 kilometres away from downtown Siem Reap.

Yutaka said his objective was to assist the Cambodian people as well as tourists who visit Siem Reap. While construction has commenced, there is no definitive opening date given for the hospital.

He also added that this hospital would not only provide treatment, but also introduce advanced Japanese technology to Cambodian doctors.

Nam, also a Siem Reap member of the national assembly from the Cambodian People’s Party who has a 51 per cent stake in the project, said the up-and-coming international hospital would provide world-class treatment to Cambodian people and tourists.

He added that there were many tourists pouring into Siem Reap every year, which meant the city needed to have a reliable hospital to gain the confidence of tourists.

“I expect there will be more tourists in Siem Reap because we are improving the infrastructure and hospitality of this place. Furthermore, this international hospital will increase the level of warmth and confidence of tourists,” said Nam.
