Aeon Mall a no-go zone for real estate events
After a surge in property-related events by various real estate developers at Aeon Mall’s Daylight Plaza, the centre’s management team is now holding off on requests from developers.
As of July 1, Aeon Mall has refused to accept requests to organise real estate events at Daylight Plaza – the vast open space at its basement floor – although fast-moving consumer goods companies are more than encouraged to host events at the plaza.
Molika Im, senior account supervisor at Aeon Mall, said, “There are too many property events. Almost every month was full of real estate [exhibitions]. It made the mall look terrible.”
After a decline in customers due to the lack of variety of events, the mall released a policy to reserve the space for more popular consumer goods such as cars, cosmetic products, and food.
One of the reasons why Aeon is no longer welcoming real estate developers stems from customer complaints.
“In the mall, because we hold events for residential housing and condos, the customers think that the companies have a base office in our mall,” Im said.
“Sometimes they come to the mall, and the event is no longer there. They would ask, ‘Where did they go? I already booked a unit.’ We had to explain it to them. There are many cases like this.”
She concluded, “The management team has yet to decide when to start accepting [requests from real estate developers], because they are now building strategies for the mall. We know that there are many competitors, so they want to bring a different image and a variety of events for the mall.”
