Taxman apologizes for inaccurate tax debt info

The tax office of HCMC’s District 1 has apologized for inaccurate information about corporate tax obligations.

Nguyen Kim Trading Joint Stock Company and Van Thinh Phat Investment Group Corporation, among others have got official apologies from the tax office.

As reported by the Daily last week, Nguyen Kim wrote to the District 1 tax office asking for a correction as it had fulfilled all tax obligations but had been named as a tax debtor.

The office checked data and found Nguyen Kim did not owe VND83.9 billion in tax as announced by the Ministry of Finance.

Therefore, in a document released on July 23 and signed by the office’s deputy head Phan Van Dung, the office confirmed Nguyen Kim had fulfilled its tax obligations and issued an official apology for the firm.

Van Thinh Phat also requested the tax office for clarification after it got an invitation to an event intended to honor outstanding individual and corporate tax payers Tuesday but it was listed as one of the tax debtors on the Ministry of Finance’s website with total tax arrears of VND17.3 billion.

According to Van Xuan Thao, deputy general director of Van Thinh Phat, the inclusion of his company in the blacklist had hurt its reputation.

In the list of 200 tax debtors the HCMC Tax Department reported to the General Department of Taxation and announced on the website of the Ministry of Finance, many are based in District 1.

However, many enterprises like The Gioi Di Dong, Him Lam Land and Nguyen Kim complained that they did not owe tax and thus worked with District 1’s tax office for clarification.

As explained by the HCMC Tax Department, such false information resulted from errors of the electronic tax management system.
