Enterprises in Hanoi face VND2.4 trillion tax debt

Hanoi City has reported total tax arrears of over VND2.4 trillion (US$110.2 million) since many local enterprises have delayed tax payments, according to the Hanoi Tax Department.

As many as 23 companies owe some VND1.23 trillion of taxes. They include Song Da-Thang Long, Viglacera and Coma, according to a report by the department released on July 6.

Song Da-Thang Long JSC headquartered in Ha Dong District has the biggest tax debt of over VND375 billion while Cavico Vietnam Bridge & Tunnel Limited Company based in Cau Giay District owes VND80 billion.

The respective tax arrears of Song Da No. 9.06 JCS, Vietnam Industrial Electronics Corporation and Cavico Hydropower JSC are VND68 billion, VND65 billion and VND54.8 billion.

The tax department also announced the names of 15 property projects owing land use fees totaling over VND1.2 trillion. Vietnam National Packaging Production and Import Export Corporation alone owes VND322 billion as it has yet to pay land use fees for an office building-apartment-villa project in Hoang Mai District.

Thanh An JSC, Hanoi Housing Development and Investment Corporation No. 6 and Construction Company No. 9 have yet to pay land use fees amounting to VND147.9 billion, VND115 billion and VND99 billion respectively.

At a recent review meeting in Hanoi, the Ministry of Finance said the country’s total tax arrears amount to VND72 trillion, equivalent to 10% of the State budget collections and two times higher than the permissible rate.

The ministry ordered the Hanoi Tax Department, the HCMC Tax Department and the General Department of Taxation to announce the list of 600 biggest tax debtors with their tax arrears many times higher than their equity.

The finance ministry told tax agencies to boost tax and fee collections from domestic sources this year to offset a decline in State budget collections due to tumbling oil prices.
