HCM City's CPI enjoys 1 per cent jump thanks to Tet celebrations

During the month of Tet, the consumer price index (CPI) of HCM City went up by 1 per cent and 1.44 per cent compared with the previous month and last December respectively.

According to the Statistical Office in HCM City, beverages and cigarettes saw the highest price rise of 3.34 per cent due to high demand during the festival. Other commodities and services increased by 1.45 per cent.

Thanks to the price stabilisation programme, food and restaurant services rose by only 1.42 per cent.

Slight increases were seen in the prices of garment and textiles, headwear and footwear, which rose by 0.70 per cent, as well as household appliances (0.54 per cent), culture/entertainment/tourism services (0.41 per cent) and educational products and services (0.10 per cent).

Medicine and healthcare services did not experience any price hikes. During the month, the price of gold decreased markedly by 1.30 per cent while the US dollar price rose slightly by 0.02 per cent.
