Major cities see slower inflation
The consumer price index (CPI) in Ha Noi inched up 0.37 per cent against last month, while the corresponding index in HCM City increased by 0.4 per cent, according to the statistics office.
According to the HCM City Statistics Office, CPI in the country's biggest economic hub surged 3.8 per cent against last December and 4.86 per cent against the same period last year.
The group of housing, electricity, fuel and construction materials saw the highest rise in October: 1.46 per cent against the previous month. Prices of clothes, hats and footwear followed, increasing by 0.58 per cent.
But the prices of household utensils and culture-entertainment-tourism dropped, declining 0.44 per cent and 0.22 per cent, respectively.
The Ha Noi Statistics Office also reported that the capital's CPI in October went up 5.8 per cent against the end of last year and 6.57 per cent against the same period last year.
Out of the 11 commodities measured, only post and telecommunications services saw no change in price. However, experts said, price increases for most of the commodities were not remarkable.
Just as in HCM City, prices of housing, fuel and construction materials experienced the highest increases in the capital: 1.17 per cent.
Culture-entertainment-tourism and transport services and education also rose by 0.82 per cent, 0.78 per cent and 0.63 per cent, respectively.
During the month, the gold price inched up 4.52 per cent against last month in the capital and 5.9 per cent in HCM City.
The US dollar index was up 0.05 per cent in the capital but down 0.22 per cent in HCM City.
