VN's ICT industry earned $13.7 billion in 2011, White Book says

Vietnam's ICT sector earned a revenue of US$13.7 billion in 2011, registering an year on year increase of 79 per cent, according to the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC)

The hardware sector earned $11.3 billion, accounting for 82 per cent of the sector's total revenue and posting an annual growth rate of 101 per cent.

The official data is part of the Vietnam 2012 ICT White Book, a publication containing information on the country's ICT industry which was officially released yesterday by the ministry.

The annual official book, jointly compiled by the National Steering Committee on ICT ( NSCICT) and MIC, compiles data from related ministries, provincial departments, associations and businesses nationwide.

"Apart from providing a realistic and comprehensive view of the current status of ICT in Vietnam, the book also focuses on the role of ICT as a critical infrastructure for the country's economic and social development," said MIC's Minister Nguyen Bac Son.

"It will provide reports outlining the overall situation of ICT development with a comprehensive assessment of the industry."

Son said the publication will be a useful reference for government agencies, local and foreign organisations and businesses in preparing strategies as well as seeking opportunities for investment in Vietnam's lucrative ICT sector.

The book, now in its fourth edition, added radio and video broadcasting sectors this year as an integrated part of ICT
