Vinamilk to be in Asia 50 best public firms list
Vinamilk -- Vietnam's largest dairy producer -- is in the wailing list to become one of the 50 best publicly traded companies in the Asia – Pacific region, according to Forbes.
In its newly-released list of the 50 best publicly traded companies in Asia-Pacific for this year, or the 2012 Asia’s Fab 50, Forbes said Vinamilk (Code: VNM) , the only Vietnamese representative out of the 12 companies recognized from five regional nations, has “the tools to appear in the Fab 50 in the near future.”
Asia’s Fab 50 includes companies chosen from a pool of 1,295 that had at least US$3 billion in annual revenue or market cap, the biweekly finance magazine said on its website.
“We look at revenue, earnings, return on capital, share-price movements and the outlook. If one had too much debt or the government owned at least half the shares, it was out,” Forbes stated, adding that local offshoots that are majority-owned by a multinational, such as Nestlé India, are not considered.
As of September 9, Vinamilk’s market cap fetched around $2.8 billion, and its revenues in the year to July stood at VND15.65 trillion, or $750 million, a 28 percent year-on-year increase.
Forbes said China dominated this year’s Fab 50 list again, with 23 mainland entries, the same as a year ago, while India claims the second-biggest haul—11 companies, up from seven last year.
“Malaysia, Japan, the Philippines and Singapore each had one representative on this year’s list. South Korea could only muster four companies this year, down from eight last year,” the report stated.
In 2010, Vinamilk also received the Forbes Asia’s 2010 Best Enterprise award among the Top 200 best enterprises in Asia, while its CEO and chairwoman, Mai Kieu Lien, was included among the 50 noteworthy path-breakers in the list of Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen, released by Forbes last March.
Two months later she also appeared in the list of the best CEO’s in Asia as compiled by the Hong Kong-based Corporate Governance Asia Journal.
