Stocks snap rally

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index failed to maintain rising momentum on August 10 as investors sold shares to take profits of previous gains.

Shares of 303 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange declined 0.33 percent, or 1.42 points, to close at 425.56 points.

Among the index members, 72 surged, 154 sank, while 83 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 13 percent in volume, and by 2 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 37.44 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND712.13 billion.

Tay Bac Minerals Investment Joint Stock Company (KTB) was the most active share in volume with 1.66 million shares changing hands.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) tagged along with 1.27 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) came next with 1.08 million shares traded.

Viet Nhat Seafood Corporation (VNH) dived 5 percent to close at VND3,800.

South Logistics Joint Stock Company (STG) contracted 4.96 percent to close at VND23,000.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) fell for third trading session, deleting 4.94 percent to close at VND23,100.

Ha Tien Transport Joint Stock Company (HTV) climbed for five consecutive trading sessions, rising 4.96 percent to close at VND14,800.

Dong Hai Joint Stock Company of Ben Tre (DHC) accelerated 4.92 percent to close at VND6,400.

Hoang Huy Investment Services Joint Stock Company (HHS) gained 4.91 percent to close at VND29,900.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – adjusted 1.98 points, or 0.39 percent, to end at 506.6. Among its 30 members, 3 stocks rallied, 18 weakened, and 9 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north corrected 0.64 percent, or 0.45 points, to close at 70.34 points with 62 winners, 144 losers, and 74 stocks treading water. Around 45.88 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND372.81 billion.

HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – deceased 0.84 percent, or 1.14 points, to finish at 134.84 points.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares recovered 0.29 percent, or 0.11 points, to close at 37.47 points. A total of 980,983 shares changed hands at VND2.73 billion.
