Cheap loans for poor farmers
Hongkong-invested GreenFeed Viet Nam, an animal feed producer, and Tuoi Tre Newspaper are making VND840 million (US$40,000) available to farming households in non-interest loans in the Central Highlands provinces of Lam Dong and Dak Nong.
This is aimed at encouraging the development of breeding or farming projects to ensure a better life for participants. Under the programme, each poor farming household will receive a loan of VND12 million together with GreenFeed animal-food worth VND2 million.
In the first phase from 2010-12, the programme also spent VND3 billion ($142,000) in helping 240 farming households in Long An, Dong Nai, Binh Dinh and Hung Yen provinces. In the second phase from 2012-14, the organisers will raise its fund to VND10 billion ($476,000) to assist 480 households in eight other provinces
