Private investment in Myanmar up 33 bln USD in five months

YANGON, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Domestic private investment in Myanmar increased by 33 billion Kyats (26,400 U.S.dollars) in nearly five months' period, reaching 1,660.34 billion Kyats as of May 2012 from 1,627 billion Kyats in January 2012, the Biweekly Eleven reported Tuesday.

Investment in only two sectors went up by a total of 800 million Kyats in more than a month with that in transportation reaching 71.937 billion Kyats in May from 71.72 billion Kyats in April 2012, and that in mining attaining 11.007 billion Kyats in May from 10.507 billion Kyats in April 2012, said the Biweekly Eleven.

According to the official figures, total foreign investment in Myanmar hit 40.699 billion U.S. dollars in 458 projects as of March 2012 since the country opened to such investment in late 1988.
