VN-Index recovers on strong demand

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rebounded on May 4 to wrap week in green as several stocks recovered while investors combed shares heavily.

Shares of 304 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange resurrected 1.6 per cent, or 7.52 points, to close at 476.32 points with 240 gainers, 38 losers, and 31 stocks remaining unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse rose by more than 4 per cent in volume and nearly 9 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 108.08 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.71 trillion.

Vinh Son - Song Hinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company (VSH) led the list of most active shares in volume with 3.69 million shares changing hands.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) followed with 3.05 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) tagged along with 2.89 million shares traded.

Gainers on the city bourse included Becamex Asphalt & Concrete Joint Stock Company (ACC), An Pha Petrol Joint Stock Company (ASP), Binh Duong Construction & Civil Engineering Joint Stock Company (BCE), Ha Tien 1 Cement Joint Stock Company (HT1), and Huu Lien Asia Corporation (HLA).

Hamico Mineral Group (KSH) submerged 4.96 per cent to close at VND13,400.

Hoi An Tourist Service Joint Stock (HOT) deleted 4.91 per cent to end at VND27,100.

National Seed Joint Stock Company (NSC) eroded 4.86 per cent to close at VND45,000.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – restored 6.4 points, or 1.19 per cent, to end at 542.5. Among its 30 members, 23 stocks rallied, 3 fell, and 4 closed unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north jumped 1.98 per cent, or 1.58 points, to close at 81.27 points with 276 winners, 39 losers, and 43 stocks treading water. Around 101.13 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.06 trillion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares regained 0.4 per cent, or 0.14 points, to close at 35.15 points. A total of 430,080 shares changed hands at VND2.9 billion.
