Viet Nam steel to face Brazilian lawsuit

Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade has begun an anti-dumping investigation into rolled steel imported from several countries, including Viet Nam.

The Viet Nam Competition Authority, run by the Ministry of Industry, announced the move, specifying Austenitic stainless steel and Ferritic steel plates, 0.35-4.75 mm in thickness.

The agency said Aperam Inox America do Sul SA filed the lawsuit last month, adding that the Brazilian ministry would conduct its investigation based on products imported between January and December last year.

The ministry would use prices in Taiwan as reference for a dumping amplitude said to reach up to US$398.22 per tonne, or 22.5 per cent.

Relevant businesses have been given 70 days as of April 13, including extension time, to answer all questions associated to the investigation, the competition authority said without pointing out specific domestic companies.

Other countries named by the authority included the US, Finland, South Korea and Taiwan.
