VN-Index closes week with slight recovery

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index recouped slightly to wrap week in light note on March 9 as some large-cap stocks buoyed the market.

The gauge of 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange reclaimed 0.1 per cent, or 0.45 points, to close at 432.11 points, with 106 gainers, 153 losers, and 50 stocks remaining unchanged.

More than 78.98 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.49 trillion on the city bourse today.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) led the list of most active shares with 6.46 million shares changing hands.

Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) followed with 5.54 million shares.

The fifth largest listed lender Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) finished third with 4.41 million shares traded.

Saigon Beverage Joint Stock Company (TRI) resurrected 5.56 per cent to close at VND1,900.

Ha Do Group Joint Stock Company (HDG), Cavico Vietnam Mining & Construction Joint Stock Company (MCV), and Vietnam Sun Corporation (VNS) all built up 5 per cent to close at VND16,800, VND4,200, and VND25,200 respectively.

Dong Hai Joint Stock Company of Ben Tre (DHC) and Freight Forwarding & Trading Joint Stock Company (VNL) emerged 4.88 per cent to close at VND12,900.

Tien Giang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (THG) crumpled 14.84 per cent to close at VND10,900.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) shrank 10 per cent to close at VND900.

Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam Insurance Joint Stock Corporation (BIC) and Taya (Vietnam) Electric Wire and Cable Joint Stock Company (TYA) ditched 5 per cent to close at VND7,600 and VND3,800 respectively.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – dipped 2.02 points, or 0.41 per cent, to end at 487.03. Among its 30 members, 13 stocks gained, 15 retreated, and 2 were unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north blocked 0.38 per cent, or 0.27 points, to close at 71.56 points with 93 winners, 195 losers, and 56 stocks stalled. Around 71.45 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND651.55 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slipped 0.46 per cent, or 0.16 points, to close at 34.58 points. A total of 162,030 shares changed hands at VND1.23 billion.
