VN-Index falls most in five months 

Stocks on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dropped at the steepest pace in five months on February 13, paring impressive gains in the past four weeks that sent Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index to a three-month high as investors continued to sell shares to take profits.

The index of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange plunged 2.34 per cent, or 9.48 points, to close at 395.54 points.

Across the benchmark, there were 61 advancers, 192 decliners, while 53 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse fell by 30 per cent over the previous trading session as around 35.55 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND680 billion.

Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) was the most active share in volume with 1.76 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, followed with 1.39 million shares traded.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) ran behind with 1.32 million shares.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) nosedived 12.5 per cent to close at VND700.

Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) sank for second day, giving up 6.82 per cent to close at VND12,300.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) and Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI) both trimmed 5.88 per cent to VND1,600.

South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) recovered 6.25 per cent to close at VND1,700.

Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) restored 4.91 per cent to close at VND17,100.

Long An Food Processing Export Joint Stock Company (LAF) resumed its three-day winning streak, edging up 4.88 per cent to close at VND17,200.

The VN30 Index sank 12 points, or 2.62 per cent, to end at 446.23 points. Among its 30 members, five stocks rallied and 25 declined.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north slumped 2.63 per cent, or 1.65 points, to close at 61.04 points. Around 32.36 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND267.26 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares discharged 0.92 per cent, or 0.32 points, to 34.64 points at 1.40 pm local time. A total of 150,340 shares were traded at VND545 million.
