VN spends nearly US $1 billion in investment abroad
Vietnamese groups and enterprises disbursed around US $950 million for their invested projects abroad in 2011, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The Việt Nam Oil and Gas Group topped the list of the outbound investors with an investment of around US $347 million.
It was followed by Viettel Telecom with US $185 million, the Việt Nam Rubber Group with US $134.6 million, the Sông Đà Group with US $161 million, the Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Group with US $39 million and the Green Indochina Wood Joint Stock Company with US $23.7 million.
In 2011, 75 new projects were licensed and 33 ones had their investment licences changed, totally capitalizing at US $2.12 billion. These projects were involved mainly in industry, energy and communication.
Some typical projects were the Ha He San 2 hydro-electricity project valued at US $806 million in Cambodia , Viettel’s telecommunication project worth US $408 million in Peru, the US $275.2 million Sê Kông 3 hydropower plant in Laos, and the Nậm Công Hydro Power Plants 2 and 3 with US $134.5 million in Laos.
By the end of 2011, Vietnamese businesses had invested US $10.8 billion in 627 overseas projects, of which US $2.7 billion were disbursed.
Among 55 countries and territories, Laos attracted the largest sum of investment with US $3.4 billion, followed by Cambodia with US $2.1 billion, Venezuela, US $1.8 billion, Russia, US $776 million, Peru, US $508 million, Malaysia, US $412 million and Mozambique, US $345 million.
