Kingdom prices climb 5 per cent in December
Cambodia's inflation rose about five per cent year-on-year in December, data from the National Institute of Statistics shows.
Food and fuel prices are still the drivers of the price increases.
Gasoline prices rose 11 per cent, while food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 6.2 per cent, the data shows.
Meat prices alone soared 28 per cent.
The Economic Institute of Cambodia projected an annualised 6.3 per cent growth rate for December, institute senior researcher Khin Pisey said yesterday.
He also attributed the gain to price increases in gasoline and food.
“Of course, our riel currency is very stable [against the US dollar], which was a crucial factor in cooling inflation,” he said.
“We see the price of food and fuel – likely milled rice and gasoline – rising. These were the main things pushing up prices.”
Khin Pisey declined to comment on the government’s inflation figure.
