Green covers Vietnam’s stock markets 

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index climbed for the sixth day on January 16 as several stocks rallied amid improved confidence.

The gauge of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange enhanced 1 percent, or 3.54 points, to close at 357.87 points.

There were 165 winners, 76 losers, while 65 remained unchanged on the benchmark.

Trading volume on the city bourse rose by 34 percent over the previous day as 29.4 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND842 billion, double that of last Friday.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, was the most active share in volume with 1.52 million shares changing hands.

The fourth largest listed bank Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) dropped to second rank with 1.34 million shares.

Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) ranked third with 912,720 shares traded.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) strengthened 7.69 percent to close at VND1,400.

Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) leaped forward 5.88 percent to VND1,800.

Other gainers on the city bourse included TMT Automobile Joint Stock Company (TMT), Tu Liem Urban Development Joint Stock Company (NTL), Binh Duong Mineral & Construction Joint Stock Company (KSB) gained 5 percent to VND6,300, VND12,600, and VND33,600 respectively.

Meca Vneco Investment & Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company (VES) chopped 7.14 percent to finish at VND1,300.

South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) plunged 6.25 percent to VND1,500.

Other losers included Tran forwarding Warehousing Corporation of Ho Chi Minh City (TMS), Ninh Hoa Sugar Joint Stock Company (NHS), Mien Dong Joint Stock Company (MDG), and Saigon Beverages Joint Stock Company (TRI). They all stripped 5 percent to VND19,000, VND28,500, VND3,800, and VND1,900 respectively.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north fortified 1.3 percent, or 0.73 points, to close at 57 points. More than 25.79 million shares changed hands at a value of VND194.4 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares inched up 0.33 percent, or 0.11 points, to 33.42 points at 2:30pm local time. A total of 150,480 shares changed hands at a value of VND752 million.
