VN-Index continues to seek bottom

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index declined for six consecutive trading sessions to a 32-month low on December 13 after bottom fishing demand failed to shore up market.

The gauge of 302 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange shattered 0.95 percent, or 3.55 points, to close at 371.75 points.

Across the benchmark, there were 85 gainers, 169 losers, while 53 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse slid by 8 percent over the previous day as 34.64 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND535 billion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume with 1.52 million shares changing hands.

It was followed by Ho Chi Minh City-based Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) with 938,870 shares.

Development Investment Construction Joint Stock Corporation (DIG) chased after with 917,030 shares traded.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) extended its losing streak to five consecutive trading sessions, paring 11.11 percent to close at VND800.

South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) ducked 5.56 percent to VND1,700.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC), Cho Lon Water Supply Joint Stock Company (CLW), and Vietnam Mechanization Electrification & Construction Joint Stock Company (MCG) all crashed 5 percent to VND28,500, VND7,600, and VND7,600 respectively.

Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) revived 6.67 percent to close at VND1,600.

Song Ba Joint Stock Company (SBA) emerged 5 percent to close at VND4,200.

Vinh Long Cereal and Food Corporation (VLF), and Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (PDN) both gained 4.96 percent to close at VND12,700, and VND23,300 respectively.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north demolished 1.21 percent, or 0.74 points, to close at 60.62 points. Around 24.8 million shares changed hands at a value of VND204.72 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares also pruned 0.23 percent, or 0.08 points, to 34.07 points at 11:26 am Vietnamese time. A total of 150,884 shares changed hands at a value of VND982 million.
