The role of businesspeople in national development highlighted
The Party considers the role of business people in national development and international economic integration to be very important and praised their contributions to the process of national industrialization and modernization.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said this at a working session with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on December 17.
The VCCI says that the Party and State have adopted policies to facilitate business development in a socialist oriented market economy.
Vietnamese businesses have developed rapidly so far and drastically improved their quality. As of September this year, Vietnam had more than 600,000 enterprises registered for business operations under the Enterprise Law, as well as one million individual business households, 133,000 cooperatives and farms, and two million private entrepreneurs.
In response to the 11th National Party Congress resolution, Vietnamese businesspeople are determined to overcome the difficulties presented by the global economic crisis to achieve the set national economic growth target, stabilize the macroeconomy and ensure social welfare. However, the competitive capacity and labour productivity of Vietnamese businesses remains poor compared to their foreign counterparts.
In his speech, Mr Trong stressed that Vietnamese entrepreneurs should associate economic growth with social progress, justice and poverty reduction, adding that the Political Bureau has issued a resolution on developing businesses and entrepreneurs in the new period.
The Party leader also expressed his belief that the Vietnamese business community will continue to overcome difficulties and make greater contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.
