To this end, two separate agreements were reached between EDL and the respective companies, which were formally inked last week.
The first document was signed by EDL Deputy General Manager Mr Savath Phoumlavanh and a representative from the Consortium of KTB Advisory Company Limited Mr Manphong Senalong.
The agreement related to a loan of US$300 million to be granted to EDL by Krung Thai Bank (KTB) for the expansion and improvement of the EDL network.
The second document was signed by Mr Savath, Mr Manphong and the Director of Mekong IVM and Consultants Company Limited Mr Phisith Onma.
This agreement pertained to a contract to hire both the Consortium of KTB Advisory Company Limited and Mekong IVM and Consultants Company Limited to conduct a financial analysis and study EDL's management and planning, at a cost of US$500,000.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Mr Khammany Inthilath.
Khammany said the signing of these two agreements to expand the electricity network was a key part of fulfilling the National Socio-Economic Development Plan by 2015.
If EDL wants to continue development and expansion in an efficient and cost effective manner, it needs to conduct a review of its financial analysis and planning, he added.
