LNCCI will hold the first ‘Made in Laos' exhibition from December 9 to 13 at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane in order to promote the production and supply of Lao goods to both domestic and international markets.

The fair is being organised by LNCCI with the help of business associations and groups that are members of the chamber.

“Although the LNCCI was established in 1998, it has never held such a fair,” LNCCI Deputy Secretary Ms Kommaly Dalavong said at a Lao Furniture Association meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting was held to review the activities of the association, including income and expenditure, marketing cooperation with China, future plans, and the fair.

“We often arrange for producers to display their products at similar fairs in other countries, but we have not yet organised such an event in our own country,' Ms Kommaly said.

The fair will feature 300 booths displaying all kinds of local produce from every province, including foreign companies that manufacture goods in Laos. The services sector will also exhibit, including hospitals and schools.

“And there will be 18 furniture booths,” she said.

Retailers and producers are set to profit by promoting their products and will also be able to share experiences in packaging and design. But those are particularly set to benefit from the fair are “the buyers, who will be able to meet and discuss directly with producers - without middlemen,” Ms Kommaly said.

Seminars will also be held during the fair, including one on small and medium sized enterprises in Laos and other countries, and others on Asean and global economic integration. They will be led by seven experts from the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Laos.

Lao Furniture Association President Mr Khamphay Somsana said “Our members are preparing to participate and attend the big event. We have advised them to check that their products meet the quality demanded in the market.”

An association member, Mr Kongmala Phommalay, said the ‘Made in Laos' fair will be a major event for the country and is a good opportunity for his factory to display its best products.

Mr Kongmala, who is Deputy President of the association, said he had urged members to set out their booths in a way that would attract customers and visitors.

“We will also set up a sales and marketing section to ensure that the furniture on display sells well,” he said.
