Cuban, VN companies look to boost trade
A conference on trade, investment and exchange between Cuban and Vietnamese businesses was held in Havana last Friday under the framework of the 29th Havana International Fair (FIHAV).
The event, organised by the Thai Binh Investment Trading Corporation and the Vietnamese embassy, aimed to introduce trade potential and promote economic and investment co-operation between Viet Nam and Cuba.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Chi Cong said that despite the US embargo against Cuba and the geographical distance between the two countries, Viet Nam had maintained and developed a multifaceted relationship with Cuba, making it Cuba's second biggest trade partner in Asia.
Cong said the conference offered an opportunity for the two countries' businesses to devise measures and action plans to promote bilateral trade exchange and business cooperation.
Director of the Cuban Centre for Promoting Foreign Trade and Investment (CEPEC) Raisa Costa Blanco said Cuban businesses were gradually improving themselves and widening co-operation with foreign counterparts in an effort to contribute more to national economic development.
She also introduced fields to call for investment in her country such as tourism, oil and gas, mineral exploration and renewable energy.
Blanco affirmed that the Cuban market always opened the door to foreign businesses, including those from Viet Nam.
